The Cheese Touch

My 8 year old son Adam is a huge fan of The Diary of a Wimpy Kid books.  He has read them all cover to cover and studies his favorite sections nightly before bed.  It even inspired him to start his own journal which I discovered quite by accident.  If you are familiar with these books then you know about the Cheese Touch.  Greg the main character tells about a slice of cheese that someone tossed onto the playground at school and it stayed for many months.  One day someone decided to touch the cheese out of curiosity and that was the beginning of the Cheese Touch.  If you get the Cheese Touch, you have it until you give it to someone else (its like cooties).  The only way to protect yourself is to cross your fingers.  And as Greg states in the book, "It's not easy keeping your fingers crossed every moment of the day"  So he ends up taping his fingers together and gets a D in handwriting and feels it was worth it.

I guess Adam decided that the Cheese Touch needed to be implemented at school with his friends and now the entire second grade is running from the Cheese Touch.  I have also had the Cheese Touch.  I got it when driving a van full of second graders home from school.  They waited, and waited for me to jump out of the the drivers seat to pass it off to someone else.  I guess they didn't understand the dynamics of driving.  Finally, after a lifetime of waiting (maybe 12 seconds) they took it back.

So, Its not clear whether I still have the Cheese Touch or if it officially can be taken back.  Beware, you might get it if I touch you.

  1. I think I need to read those books. That is too funny. Something for me to look forward to when Jacob's a little older.
