The Year of 6
I have a funny little 6 year old that cracks me up. Recently she turned 6 and proudly declared that it was the year of 6. She was turning 6, she had 6 friends, and there was something else 6 that I can't remember. She thought that having so many 6 things happening at the same time was spectacular. So did I until her uncle David mumbled under his breath that it was great, except that if you put those three 6's together it was something else entirely (thanks David). Anyway, since she turned 6 she has openly declared her love of Sam a boy in her kindergarten class. Today on the way to dance she giggled uncontrollably at the thought of kissing this young man. To this I responded that there would be no kissing until at least 16. Which has a 6 in it so its a good number. We then polled the other 6 year olds in the car as to what an appropriate age would be to kiss a boy. Reagan said 22 and Ella said 20. I liked these numbers even better and thus declared to the giggly 6 year old clan that there would be no kissing boys until age 20. They all agreed and I plan to hold em to it.

The Cheese Touch
My 8 year old son Adam is a huge fan of The Diary of a Wimpy Kid books. He has read them all cover to cover and studies his favorite sections nightly before bed. It even inspired him to start his own journal which I discovered quite by accident. If you are familiar with these books then you know about the Cheese Touch. Greg the main character tells about a slice of cheese that someone tossed onto the playground at school and it stayed for many months. One day someone decided to touch the cheese out of curiosity and that was the beginning of the Cheese Touch. If you get the Cheese Touch, you have it until you give it to someone else (its like cooties). The only way to protect yourself is to cross your fingers. And as Greg states in the book, "It's not easy keeping your fingers crossed every moment of the day" So he ends up taping his fingers together and gets a D in handwriting and feels it was worth it.
I guess Adam decided that the Cheese Touch needed to be implemented at school with his friends and now the entire second grade is running from the Cheese Touch. I have also had the Cheese Touch. I got it when driving a van full of second graders home from school. They waited, and waited for me to jump out of the the drivers seat to pass it off to someone else. I guess they didn't understand the dynamics of driving. Finally, after a lifetime of waiting (maybe 12 seconds) they took it back.
So, Its not clear whether I still have the Cheese Touch or if it officially can be taken back. Beware, you might get it if I touch you.

I had a plan...
As some of you know I went back to school this year due to a transition in the requirements for my field. I am an Audiologist. I test peoples hearing and a number of other things that I will explain someday in another post. Anyway, its been my intention to go back to work part time eventually. In my field there are many areas that can be covered. When I lived in Boston, I did general audiology work for many years but then was asked to help establish a newborn hearing screening program at the medical center I worked for. I had a specific interest in pediatrics and had completed a final project in school in this area so it was perfect. I LOVED this job. When we moved home, I told my husband that when I went back to work I wanted to do that exact job. The only problem is, there are very few of these specific jobs available. Especially where I live now.
So, my plan was to go back to school, get the new degree (Summer 2011), get my kids all in school, get my ideal part time job, and work while kids were in school.
Until...yesterday. I get THE call. A position is opening, part time, doing what I want to do, and I'm basically being told I am the desired person for the position when it opens. Am I interested.
hold on...this call came a year too early...my head is swirling...
Once this position is filled it probably will not be available again for many years. Someone has to die, quit, or retire. I still have a 4 year old in preschool next year... It's so hard to find part time day care. There are waiting lists. What about Summer time.
I had a plan...I'M NOT READY!

Here we go...
I have been mulling over the idea of starting a blog for quite awhile now. I saw a book someone made from their blog and really that is what sold me on the idea. I tend to resist jumping off the cliff when everyone else does. I guess it goes back to the lectures from my mom and dad. Whenever I wanted to do something with my friends that was the "in" thing to do, my parents always pulled out the old follow the crowd card and of course I didn't want to jump off the cliff because everyone else was. So, back when blogging became the "in" thing to do, I resisted. Things have changed. I am not a writer. I don't like to journal, scrapbook, or anything like that. However, I think this might be a way for me to do both, make it into a book and pass it on. Now, mind you, I have always had issues with putting my thoughts into words. So if you join me in this blogging journey, please read the following disclaimer.
I'm glad that you are interested in my blog, however, please be aware that you might not ever read anything of great significance. I write like I think, and its not always in complete sentences or grammatically correct. So if you can handle it, welcome.
With that being said, here we go. I promise to learn more as I go and improve the appearance of this blog. But for now. This is what you get.
